Computer Services Manager

General Purpose: Under supervision of the Library Director, maintains all library computers, software and works with the Director to develop new services, upgrade equipment and develop workable policies. Develops and provides patron and staff computer instructions for basic use and the Library’s Internet access. Manages the library’s web page, server and e-mail accounts. Monitors and maintains any filtering software.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty listed below.   • Provides a positive and friendly environment for patrons and staff;
  • Maintains the library’s computer technology and web page – HTML knowledge is necessary;
  • Maintains the hardware and software current and usable for staff and public;
  • Provides information to the Director to assist with decisions regarding technology and library services necessary to be on the cutting edge and in the updating of the technology plan;
  • Develops new and appropriate programs to educate the staff and patrons in the use of library supplied services;
  • Rearranges and upgrades computer components, pieces, wiring and software as necessary;
  • Troubleshoots PC problems and ensures staff and public PCs are operating as needed;
  • Works with the Director to order and check in newly acquired computers and equipment;
  • Develops and maintains an inventory of the computer related equipment owned by the library and passwords; and
  • Attends and represents the Library at technical meetings and to the public.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to deal with people and explain information.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and service orientation when working with the public and staff;
  • Knowledge of networking, web page development, computer upgrading basics and troubleshooting;
  • Ability to maintain a network and server without the use of a consultant.
  • Ability to work alone and as a team member is necessary;
  • Ability to develop and implement public and staff training sessions;
  • Ability to develop brochures and flyers;
  • Desire to keep current in the computer field is a must;
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher and Microsoft windows; current operating systems and Internet.
  • Internet searching abilities and experience; and
  • Attend out of town meetings and training as needed.
  • Skill in: interpersonal relations, communications and problem solving.

Qualifications:

  • Requires at least an Associate’s Degree in computers, including classes in networking and information security.
  • Ability to document identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of original appointment as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.
  • Must pass a background check.

Other Work Considerations:

  • General office/library environment;
  • Work requires at least 50% of time in direct customer service;
  • Limited physical effort required, including lifting of boxes, repetitive motion in the operation of a PC or other library equipment;
  • May require irregular hours, including evenings and weekends;
  • Work is subject to frequent interruptions

Usual Physical Demands:

The following physical demands are typically exhibited by position incumbents performing this job’s essential duties and responsibilities.

  • Standing and sitting for long periods of time;
  • Using keyboards and computer screens for extended periods of time;
  • Lifting of at least 40-50 pounds, bending reaching and stooping are necessary to maintain and install cables and equipment;
  • Repetitive motions with keyboard use;
  • Moving and lifting equipment is a necessary part of the job, carts are supplied to assist.
  • Use of an elevator is necessary;

Technology Trainer – Contract, Full-Time

Employment Status: Contract through June 30, 2025

Reports to: Department Supervisor

Hourly contract rate: $18 (no withholdings)

This is a full-time contract position funded in part through a federal grant administered by the State Library of Ohio. The full-time grant position runs from date of hire through June 30, 2025. The rate of pay is set by the grant at $18 an hour (no tax withholdings).

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

· Provide clear and friendly one-on-one assistance and group training on topics such as Microsoft Office and Windows; internet security; mobile technology; social media; computer hardware; 3D printing, gaming; and similar topics.

· Reach out to people in an outgoing manner and look for new community audiences for technology. Advocate for and enhance customers’ digital literacy skills. Develop library users’ technological confidence.

· Provide technical support to library staff and patrons, including Microsoft applications, iOS and Android applications, assisting with printing and copying services, and answering basic technology-related questions.

· Assist customers with the use of library equipment, copiers, microfilm, faxes, computers, etc.

· Deliver presentations on technology topics that are interactive, enthusiastic, and informative to both groups and individuals of all ages.

· Assist with coaching teenagers on the library’s E-Sports team.

· Provide professional, enthusiastic, courteous and outgoing interactions with library customers of all ages.

· As directed: discover, assess, and make informed suggestions to supervisor on new technology that the library might train on or offer to library customers.

· Assess and report on customer service interactions, user learning success, and personal productivity. Make informed suggestions for improvements.

· Learn and teach others essential library resources such as databases, catalog systems, and equipment.

· Contribute to a positive, friendly, and cooperative environment for staff and library customers of all ages;

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

· Follow all applicable library policies and procedures.

· Work in various departments as needed.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Excellent knowledge of information technologies – computer hardware, mobile, software, social media, etc.

· Excellent communication and people skills. Able to solve problems in an agreeable manner collaborating when needed, and to explain technology in easy-to-understand terms.

· Positive attitude and good customer service skills.

· Ability to pay attention to detail and prioritize tasks.

· Ability to work independently and as a team member.

· Ability to present information without bias and avoid recommending products or actions.

Qualifications:

· Candidate must have experience working with various age groups, providing customer service, and maintaining confidential information.

· An appropriate combination of education and training to demonstrate required knowledge, skills and abilities. College training in a relevant field is preferred.

· Must pass a background check.
